Well here it is- a run around the layout with Steve as the "Engineer". We recorded this back in November 2023 at Thanksgiving. You will see the entire layout from the "cab", and you may catch a glimpse of some people that you know. Steve then backed into the South Yard at Eugene and ran through the Engine Terminal. We took a shaky spin on the turntable, backed out for a different view, then mar...

Nothing serious here...just some videos of choo-choos running on the layout (and in real life...) I had taken these over time and figured I may as well post them, since I had nothig important or interesting to say (do I ever??) I did try increasing the volume on several segments as the audio from the cell phone I used (Google Pixel Pro 7) and the distance to the trains meant the sound was rathe...

Mistakes were made.... I came across a used Atlas Classic Pennsy SD35, Road Number 6008. It was straight DC, no sound. So I decided to add DCC/Sound to it. It looked like it would be easy. The unit has a spot in the rear weigth for two round 30mm speakers. I figured out a way to use the TCS AS-MB2 Motherboard, as this has JST sockets that were a perfect fit for the original Atlas JST connectors...

Just a quick (HA!!) video showing how I decided to add a replacement Moloco Draftgear to a basic Robins Rails 60' Greenville Boxcar kit. I like this car as it is decorated for the Nickle Plate. The details are a bit lacking (and rather "heavy") but it was an inexpensive kit and the lettering is fairly good. So I removed the original "draftgear" and added a detail kit from Moloco. The only other...

Here is a review of some new 3D printed coal loads for various hoppers. The loads are from MKG Models, a small 2-person (currently) operation run by Morgan and Kendra Griffith. I received some of the GLa and H21 loads, in Regular and Mine Run versions, as well as a gravel and some various other coal loads. These loads were "finished" - they had coal already added and were propely painted. I als...

Another long one, just to show you how I slapped 10 Roco Minitank Ford vans into an Athearn Genesis autorack. Ok, there is a bit more to it than that! Come along as I load an Athearn Genesis Bi-Level open side autorack. I tossed around several ideas on what to use as a load, and I settled on using Roco Mini Tanks Ford FK1000 Kasten BW Army vans, Items 661 (Utility Van) and 663 (Ambulance). Thes...

Wow- one hour and forty minutes of nonsense! Here is a review of the layout, including how it fits in the "real world", a trackplan, a look at the configuration (schematic, power, and computer/DCC setup), and then a tour around the layout. Yeah, there may be a few tangents in there as well. No running trains- that would make this video WAY WAY WAY too long. Running trains will be a separate vid...

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year everyone! Here is my contribution to the celebration-some scenes of a local train running aroud the layout. These are cars I just weathered up, so are brand new to the layout. Wrong era, but these will go well behind my 2nd genertion NYC power. Nice, slow running- the way I like it. I decided to try one of the new Stealth locos from Broadway Limited. I certainly do not need this unit, but I wanted to try it. (Do any of us really NEED model railroading stuff??) Let's face it, if you get one of these you are planning to uncork it so you can add a DCC decoder. So I show what I did in that area, in my usual rambling way. (This is a long video...) DONE! Here I show the actual loading of the Class One Model Works car with their Old Transformer. This was a bit more work than I anticipated. But I do like the way it looks, even if it is a GE transformer coming out of a Westinghouse factory. I'm saying it is a repaired unit. I even have a bit of layout action with the car at the end of the video.

In this rambling video I take you through what I did to the CMW Erie #7265 Depressed Flatcar to make it a little bit more prototypical. This isn't really a "Product Review"- that was the previous video. This video shows how I did indeed fix the warp/twisting issue, added a "real" wood deck, added lugs to each end of the depressed deck, and weathered the car. This is a very nice car- especially ...

Here's a comment... You invite comments and then don't answer a single one. Like what camera are you using? Any pictures of your camera car? You would probably have even more subscribers, as your railroad is pretty nice, if you just weren't so damn full of yourself.

Hello Mr. Rob You have an incredibly realistic layout, extremely beautiful and detailed, which is rare to find anywhere, you think through everything to the smallest detail. I want to ask you, what is this background with a corn field, what is it called? I liked him. I wish you a wonderful day and God's blessing.

Apparently I watched this once before as it appears that I up'ed the thumbs...what the hell...I'll watch it again. (It's one of the perks of getting old...the memory sometimes makes everything seem brand new 😛) I do have a question you'll never answer and that is, where did you get that map? I am relatively familiar with N. Pennsylvania but I don't recognize any of those towns. Is that a map from 1849? 😁

One of the few layouts that actually lends itself to this view. There are areas on the layout where you actually get the feeling that it is miles deep. The scene coming off the turntable is just stunning art Sir Rob. As close to perfect as model railroading allows. Nice to see the kids and dad having a good time. Eugene would be proud.

Got burned out on watching train/layout videos for a couple of months so I'm late to this one. Some of the best scenery and weathering in the game Rob. I didn't mind the weird time warp thing going on here with the ops session. I did not displease me. Hope all is well with you.

Just wanted to say thank for showing us and explaining to us operations.Yes the coal car situation. Once my layout is built I think that's where i'm gonna be spending a lot of my time is in the yard, Yes, There's going to be days where I just want to watch trains. Run around the layout, I have 0 background in operations, but from videos I've seen. That's what interests me the most, but but some youtubers Just go through the motions with no explanation. So I gotta try and figure out what they're doing on my own.Where is you actually explain it and why/how. Right down to the guys on the crew stopping for lunch😂 I thought that was a pretty awesome touch. Prior to this I guess my guys just would have had to bring a bag launch and work straight through their shift, Which could be seven days straight prior to this video. I'd get up one morning and none of my trains would be running. And there'd be a little tiny note Telling me that literally everybody went on strike! As a viewer and Future builder and operator, Details like this are important. And I wouldn't necessarily think of it on my own so thank you for pointing out what you might think is, " boring" Or mundane, There's those lessons here that are quite helpful. thinking of adding that realism. I'm getting pretty good at practicing my scenery, E t c, But you bring the actual realism into The yard. Thanks for that!

Enjoyed the video on the turntable and engine service area. The pits in the roundhouse were used for inspecting the underside of steam locomotives. Between runs the steam locomotives would often be in the roundhouse for some servicing, such as lubing the rod bearings with hard grease. This could also be done outside as needs dictated. At larger roundhouses periodic boiler washes would be done to clean the inside of the boiler of hard water deposits (scale). As the railroads transitioned from steam to diesel locomotives, the roundhouse pits would also to inspect the underside of the trucks on diesels. The layout of your engine servicing looks plausible, as does your explanation of how you intend to route locomotives through the facility.

That's an amazing layout Rob. Thank you for the tour. You guys in the States are so lucky to be able to use your basements for layouts. The backdrop blends into the scenery beautifully, and your detailed modelling is helping to reignite my interest in my own layout again. You have HO, Pennsy in the basement; I have N scale, modern day trains in the shed! You wouldn't think I could get so much interest as your layout is so different to mine. But I have to tell you : If I was ever back in the States again, I would love to do Ops on your layout. Just a little switching at Sharon would keep me happy for hours! Thanks again.

Hi Rob, Just wondering did you work out what was wrong with it? This comment is 7 years later. I have read many of the comments below and wow there are so many variations and some people did not even look or see what was happening in your video and they just made a comment.... I have one of these exactly and the issue for mine was the lower axle gears were slipping on the axle shaft. I just put a drop of super glue on it and away it went. I love the Fleischmann locos and have several of them.
